Gobys that share a symbiosis with pistol shrimp

There are a few gobies in nature that share an amazing symbiotic relationship with the Alpheus genus pistol shrimp. Any many of them are available in the marine aquarium hobby today. This allows us to view this relationship from the comfort of our own homes.

Members of the genus Stonogobiops almost always pair up with a goby. Members include the beautiful and pricey Yasha goby, high-fin goby and the dracula goby.

Other types of gobies that may pair up with Pistol Shrimp include the watchman goby complex as well as most prawn gobies.

Confirmed watchman gobies that do pair up include the yellow watchman goby, wheeler’s watchman goby, tiger watchman goby and the pink spotted watchman goby.
