How Titanic the Movie Became Such a Hit

In 1997, one of the largest ever grossing films hit the big screen. Titanic the movie broke movie grossing records in its first weekend at the box office. But why? Why did a movie about a boat that sinks become such a hit? Everybody knows the ending. The boat sinks. Plus, it’s a three hour long period piece that takes place on a boat. How did it go from being a tragic tale to a box office wonder?

Before its release, various film critics predicted the film would be a significant disappointment at the box office, especially due to being the most expensive film ever made at the time. However the critics aren’t always right, especially in this case. Being the most expensive film ever made ended up paying off for the movie because the effects captivated audiences across the world. An all star cast including Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet didn’t hurt either. The storyline was more than just a boat sinking, and that is what made Titanic the movie such a hit.
