We Treated a Young Woman with a Latex Allergy in the Emergency Room
16 March 2010
I work in the emergency room of our local hospital. I really like my job, especially the variety of ailments and injuries that we get to treat on each shift. The other night a young woman came in with difficulty breathing and welts all over her body. The attending physician started asking her questions and quickly determined that she was exhibiting latex allergy symptoms. Sure enough, she had just purchased some new gloves for doing dishes. They were not her usual brand, and the amount of latex was enough to trigger a nasty reaction. I expect that she will think twice before she puts on another pair of kitchen rubber gloves.
